About
I am an Independent Researcher based in New York City. I have been active in the area of Systems Requirements Engineering for over 20 years and hold a Ph.D. on the topic of traceability (1995), and undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science (1989, 1990). In addition to academic research and teaching positions in the UK and US (Oxford University, Imperial College London, City University London, University College London and Pace University), I have held senior positions within the UK defense industry doing Systems Requirements Engineering, have collaborated on numerous related projects with partners in telecommunications, air traffic control, medical systems, among others, and done my fair share of education and training. I am a Certified IT Professional (CITP), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Certified ScrumMaster.
My early work on traceability received the Most Influential Paper award from the 1st International Conference on Requirements Engineering held in 1994, and since then I have never been able to escape the topic … so I just try very hard to make this dry discipline more visual and better fun. My attempts to explain the topic to non-techies has led me to finding analogies with my passion – kayaking – and to learning way too much about lost luggage, the food I eat and scary diseases (see recent publications).
